退避三舍：春秋时期，晋国内乱，晋献公的儿子重耳逃到楚国。

后来重耳在秦穆公的帮助下重回晋国执政。
晋国支持宋国与楚国发生矛盾，两军在城濮相遇，重耳退避三舍，诱敌深入而大胜。

诏书特赦成其孝，又废肉刑惠后人。

《孟姜女哭长城》：《孟姜女哭长城》（孟姜女传说）是中国古代四大爱情传奇之一。
该故事源自于“杞梁妻哭夫”的史实编写。
讲述了在秦朝时，有个女子叫孟姜女。
一天她救了一个逃避徭役的年轻人范喜良。
两个人日久生情，便结为夫妻。
但不幸的是范喜良在成亲那天被官兵抓走修长城了。
孟姜女日夜思念和担心丈夫，决定去寻找他。
她跋山涉水，终于到了长城。
但是等待她的却是丈夫已经死了的噩耗，孟姜女悲痛欲绝，忍不住放声大哭起来，她的哭声感动了天地万物，忽然轰隆隆一声巨响，长城瞬间崩倒了八百里，露出了范喜良的尸骨。
秦始皇听说后勃然大怒，下令抓捕孟姜女，可一见她貌美非凡，便想选她做妃子。
可不管秦始皇怎样讨好她，她就是不答应。
她说，秦始皇涂炭天下人民，又害死了她丈夫，她不能做他的妃子，说完便怀抱丈夫的遗骨跳河自尽了的故事。
该故事发生在河北北部的万里长城脚下，千百年来，它以戏剧、歌谣、诗文、说唱等形式流传于世。
历史遗迹：河北省秦皇岛山海关被后人认为是“孟姜女哭长城”之地，并在那里盖了孟姜女庙，南来北往的人们常在这儿洒下一掬同情之泪。
庙中有楹联这样说：秦皇安在哉，万里长城筑怨；
姜女未亡也，千秋片石铭贞。
孟姜女哭崩长城的故事，反映了秦代徭役对百姓所带来的深重痛苦。
也有的认为该故事出自战国时期。
“孟姜女哭长城”之地，据说庙东南4公里处两块露出海面的礁石便是孟姜女孟姜女哭长城的传说在民间广为流传，其夫范喜良（卫辉人）被魏王征召修筑长城（今卫辉与辉县交界的战国长城）劳累而死，埋于长城之下。
孟姜女寻夫哭至卫辉池山段长城，感动天地，哭塌长城，露出丈夫尸骨。
至今在卫辉池山乡歪脑村一带还流传其故事，山上能见到孟姜女哭塌长城的泪滴石。
新乡市区有孟姜女河，孟姜女路，孟姜女桥等名称。
